Dang! I wish my church talked about this more often!

In masturbation, do your thoughts and emotions matter while you are having this sexual encounter ?

I found this at phpforum.lovingonpurpose.com

It is easier to refer to the thoughts and emotions as the heart for this answer.

"Watch over the heart for out of it flow the issues of life"

It is hard to imagine that unhealthy or selfish issues of the heart are not going to leave a mark on your life. So, it matters if you think your heart matters.

"... taking every thought captive and bringing it into obedience to Christ" gives you some pretty good personal responsibility as well. Many of us cultivate thoughts of fear, powerlessness, bitterness and other vain imaginations and process them as 'normal' to life's experience. But, that isn't true or helpful. If those thoughts are sexual in nature then shame and guilt are easily attached. This isn't helpful either.

The goal will always be to choose your thoughts, to direct them toward preserving love, connection, peace and freedom. Ask yourself, "Am I protecting my top priority relationships with how I am watching over my heart?"

Danny you're the man! This is the best teaching on masturbation I've ever heard. Thanks!

This is some absolutely wonderful and very neeed teaching for the Body of Christ to hear and embrace as a whole. It affects so many aspects of our lives in a profound way. My only negative comment is that there is nothing mentioned about how w/ Gods mercy and grace there is VICTORY in our lives and in our hearts over masterbation. But the first step is talking about it like he said, "drawing a line". Praise God!!!

Wowee! That was awesome. I stopped masturbating some time ago due to the revelation that I was robbing my future wife of my sex drive and thus it was an unhealthy practice. But I didn't think it through as clearly and as concretely as this -- I appreciate the reaffirming exposition!
