I just have to share this, we have been listening to your parenting cds for a couple of months now (over and over) 7 kids from 2 to 18 still at home (4 married) We have lots of great stories already, but one of my favorites is when I was putting my 4 and 6 year old to bed (same room) and told them I love them, good night, remember- I don't want to see you or hear you, ok? As I got to the door and was ready to turn out the light, my 4 yr old Chaz says" Mom?" Yes... " I don't want to hear you or see you either, ok?
I struggled with my 6 and 4 yr olds going to bed, all the normal requests that you seem to have down so well. When we started 'room time' and 'are you tired?' the 6 yr old got it right away(after washing the laundry room floor once) I would hear playing and go in to ask if they were tired and she's in bed, covers on, eyes closed saying "I'm tired." It took Chaz(4) about 10 days and just about all the creativity that I could think of. I finally got really tired of finding things for him to do and informed him one night that he was wasting my time and that I had other things that I would rather be doing. I kept track of how long it took him to go to bed(1hr,20 min.) I even had him running up and down stairs one night, he would get done doing it 5-6 times and say" I think I could do it faster then that." and do it again. Anyway the next day I told him he was going to pay my time back to me and I fixed lunch (something he likes, he loves to eat) I had him sit on a chair while everyone else ate, He got down once after 10 min and I made him start over. After his 1hr and 30 min. were done he got to eat.(I even warmed it up) That night, I heard some noise after bed time and went into the room asking" Are you tired Chaz?" He responds " Yes, I am tired, Mom, I am going to get in my bed and stay there forever!" He's a genius after all!
I really want to get this info out in our church and area. I have listened to the cds, but I am ordering your book, I am hoping there is even more info there than on the cds. I want to really understand all of it well. I am wanting to get a group together for support-discussion etc. Oh, by the way, we are really grateful for the wisdom you are sharing from the Lord. It is the best I've seen on parenting, relationships and honor. I have not heard all of your stuff but I am loving the fact that it is tied in with intimacy with the Lord as it should be. (I have been looking at different things for about 23 yrs) Thanks, again. Blessings to you and your wonderful family
